Teach in Japan

Japan is a cultural standalone in many ways among its Asian counterparts – a unique experience for tourists, travellers and TEFL graduates. Consisting of a string of densely populated islands, most of the landmass is mountainous (including 200 volcanoes – Mount Fuji being the most famous), surrounded by a beautiful coastline and opportunities for outdoors activities abound. If skiing is your thing, then Japan in winter is hard to beat, with some excellent ski resorts making the most of thick powdery snows. There are also numerous hot springs in Japan thanks to the volcanic landscape.

Japan is a highly developed and sophisticated country, very clean and cultured, though the cost of living is higher than in Southeast Asia and Indochina.  Japan is also known for an almost 100% literacy rate, a proud but exceptionally hospitable populace, thousands of temples and shrines, cherry blossoms in the springtime and undeniably superb cuisine – including sushi of course!

The need for English among their clients falls into two main categories – participating in global business, or for travel and hobby reasons. The Japanese education system provides a strong basis in English reading and writing, but the spoken communication aspect is often not a focus – that’s where Gaba comes in. They have crafted an approach to their lessons that takes the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methodology and applies it to the specific needs of adult learners in Japan studying in a one-to-one environment. They customise every lesson to fit the needs and goals of their individual clients – Gaba seeks to break the one-size-fits-all mould their clients may have experienced elsewhere and deliver a superb education service. For their instructors, this means that no two lessons will be alike – every client’s needs are different and so they adapt their lessons accordingly.

A great environment is essential for both teaching and learning, and Gaba’s Learning Studios are carefully designed with the comfort of clients and Instructors in mind. Each of thei Learning Studios have their own unique character, but at the same time whether smaller or larger in size, suburban or central in location, they all share core design principles that mark them out as distinctly “Gaba” spaces. Comfortable, clean, and professional, their studios facilitate excellence in English teaching for their instructors.
