Teach in Taiwan

Starting from a single school in the 1980s, HESS International Education Group has grown into the most recognized English education company in Taiwan. In addition to over 200 schools located in cities big and small, they have developed a publishing arm, bookstore, overseas study programs, an educational research division, and a charitable foundation. They have decades of experience helping teachers build their teaching careers in Taiwan, whether for one year or a decade (or two, or even three!).

Positions are available across Taiwan, including Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Zhongli, Hsinchu, Zhubei, Yilan, Loudong, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Taichung, Hualien, Taitung, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. (No rural locations)

- Comprehensive training and support throughout your first year with HESS. Learn TEFL best practices, education psychology, practical teaching skills, and be trained on the HESS Curriculum.
- Their highly-structured curriculum is supportive of new teachers and clearly lays out the learning goals for students.
- Location options: HESS has schools all over Taiwan in cities big and small
- HESS teaching schedules allow teachers to strike a balance between building their careers and exploring everything Taiwan has to offer
- Starting pay rate of 650 – 700 NTD per teaching hour, commensurate with education and experience. (You can check the current exchange rate here: xe.com)
- Additional 3,000 NTD compensation per month for lesson preparation, grading, and other duties
- Guaranteed minimum of 20 teaching hours per week, averaged out over the month (most HESS teachers teach approximately 25-26 hours per week)

- Contract completion, first contract renewal, student retention bonuses

- Immigration assistance so that you obtain all the documents necessary to legally live and work in Taiwan

- Age Group: Students typically range in age from 3 to 12 years old
- Class Sizes: Usually between 15 and 20 students per class.
- Work Hours/Schedules: Varies depending on location and school.
- Locations: All over Taiwan, including Changhua, Chiayi, Hsinchu, Hualien, Keelung, Luodong, Nantou, New Taipei City, Taichung, Tainan, Taipei, Taitung, Taoyuan, Yilan, Yunlin, and Zhubei.

- Contract Length: 12 months
- Growth Opportunities: Past teachers have become the head teacher at their school or lent their skills to the curriculum development, recruitment, or training teams.
Due to work visa requirements, applicants must:
- Be native English speakers from the USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
- Hold a fully completed bachelor’s degree (or higher). Associate degrees will be accepted with a 120-hour TEFL Certificate (we can assist you with this if you’re not TEFL certified)
- Hold a clean national criminal background check.
