Website Garden School Victoria

Job Description

We are currently looking for volunteers to teach English in Honduras at Garden School Victoria. If you are able to make a commitment of 6 to 10 months, we encourage you to apply. Our school year runs from February to November.

We are a bilingual school located in an impoverished area of Honduras. Our mission is to offer a solid bilingual education at an affordable price so that our students have more opportunities in the future and can break the cycle of poverty many families in Honduras are trapped in.

Our volunteers work Monday through Friday from 7am-2pm. Most volunteers have at least two free periods throughout the day to lesson plan but are required to be at school the full day. We ask that volunteers come to school prepared to teach and teach to the best of their ability on a daily basis. Besides the regular school schedule, we also have a weekly meeting with volunteers after school on Wednesdays. There are also occasional outside-of-school events or meetings. Our school year runs on the Honduran schedule – February through November.

We do not require prior teaching experience or Spanish language skills. Instead, we are looking for people who have a passion for helping, love working with kids, and a willingness to work hard to benefit their students. We find that some of our best teachers are those that, even without experience, really care about the students and put in the effort to become great teachers.

We offer housing in a shared volunteer house, food, transportation to and from the airport, and a monthly stipend of $50 USD (This stipend goes a long way in Honduras!). We also cover any costs associated with a visa extension and any medical expenses incurred while in Honduras. Volunteers receive teacher training and run their own classroom (which is perfect for people who are thinking about going into teaching in the future and want the experience!). There is in-classroom support as needed and we provide any teaching supplies necessary. A volunteer can also receive Spanish classes if they are interested.
