Shane English is one of the largest British owned EFL organizations in Asia. They opened their first school in Japan in 1977 and now they have over 300 schools worldwide. Their first school in Taiwan was first established in Taipei in 1994 and now they have around 70 English schools operating in 9 cities across Taiwan.

$600-$700 TWD per hour (based on qualifications and experience). Performance-related pay increase every 6 months, and automatic pay increase every 12 months.

  • AGE GROUPS: 3 to 15.

  • LOCATIONS: Positions are available in Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Tainan, and Kaohsiung.

  • Native English speaker from the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand and in possession of a valid passport (that has at least 12 months’ validity remaining).

  • Hold a fully completed Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
  • Hold a 120 hour TEFL Certificate.
  • Hold a clean national criminal background check.


You are guaranteed to teach a minimum of 20 hours per week, although teachers normally teach over 25 hours per week (No office hours required). You’ll be working 5 days a week with two days off (Saturday is usually a working day in Taipei, so Taipei teachers get Sunday and another day off; teachers at non-Taipei schools get weekends off). The schedules will vary between the locations and age groups you teach, with the kindergarten students, you’ll be teaching in the mornings and afternoons, with the older students, you’ll be teaching in the afternoons and evenings.
