THE PROGRAM
Starting with 3 weeks TEFL training in a paradise location, followed by a guaranteed paid teaching job which could be anywhere in Thailand. This is our most popular program and there are good reasons for it – Thailand is a popular country because of the low cost of living, good salaries for teachers, great tasting food, friendly people, stunning beaches and hot weather. We are popular because we go out of our way to make sure you have a great experience.
WELCOME DAY SOCIAL EVENT
The program starts with a Welcome Day social event in Bangkok, where trainees from different course locations meet and get a taste of Thailand. Then either that evening or the next morning, all trainees and staff travel to the paradise training location.
The social event also lets you meet all the support staff and help you feel comfortable that we will be looking after you well during your time with us. We try and make the event fun and engaging, with stalls and workshops showing Thailand as a country. In the past, we have had Muay Thai kickboxing workshops, Thai language workshops, Thai food workshops and teambuilding activities.
TRAINING IN PARADISE
This program starts with training you how to teach English as a foreign language on a paradise island or very near one. Paradise locations we have used in the past have been Koh Chang, Krabi, Koh Samui, Phuket and Koh Phangan. Please note that although teacher training is in the paradise location, your teaching placement will not be.
WE FILL UP EACH PARADISE LOCATION THEN OPEN ANOTHER
Once one paradise training location books up to the maximum of 24 trainees, we open another paradise training location and start again at interviewing over Skype for the right people for that location. We always start with booking up Koh Chang, and there is no set order of which location opens up next.
WE OFFER PAID TEACHING JOBS AFTER THE TRAINING
We are able to offer everyone a guaranteed teaching job, paying at least 30,000 THB per month, which is the market average and more than enough money to enjoy yourself in Thailand.
WE CALL IT AN INTERNSHIP, BUT IT’S A REAL JOB
Although we call this an “Internship Program”, the job we offer is a proper job and not an internship, but we do offer a lot of support during the TEFL training and are always on hand to help during your teaching job if needed. So we called it an “internship program” to signify the support we offer.
JOB PLACEMENT LOCATIONS AND DURATION
On this program, you won’t be placed in the middle of nowhere – unless you want to be. Native English teachers populate every province but in many cases our teachers are placed near each another. Teaching jobs are for a minimum of 4-5 months which is one academic term but you can renew your teaching contract. Many teachers have stayed for years teaching English in Thailand.
TYPE OF JOBS AND SCHOOLS
Teaching jobs can be at kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, both private and government schools. That means you could teach students from the age range of between 3 to 18 years old. If you have a preference to the age range, we try our best to suit you and if you do not want a placement offered to you, you can request to be placed in another area as long as you have a good reason.
JOB PLACEMENT REQUESTS
Due to the large number we place, we cannot fulfil specific location preferences (for example, we cannot place you near a beach or island, which is a popular request!) but if you want to be in Bangkok we can normally fulfil this request.
APPLYING WITH FRIENDS
Also, if you have a friend, we guarantee that we will place you together, up to a maximum of 3 friends.
FULL TEFL CERTIFICATION
You will be fully TEFL qualified after the training period, enabling you to teach English anywhere in the world. The teaching experience gained during the school term in Thailand adds to your employability should you apply elsewhere after the program.
A GOOD TEACHING SALARY
Whilst teaching you will earn at least 30,000 THB per month, which is more than enough money to live in Thailand, as it has extremely low living costs. An average Thai teacher’s salary is roughly between 9,000 – 12,000 THB to give you some indication of living costs. You will be able to live comfortably and have enough money to enjoy yourself.
TRAINING TO TEACH ENGLISH IN A PARADISE LOCATION
Gain your TEFL Certificate in an idyllic surrounding. You need wind-down time after a hard day studying – why not spend that time chilling in a paradise location?
COMPLIMENTARY RESORT ACCOMMODATION
Resort accommodation is provided for the 3 weeks of the TEFL course. You will most likely be sharing a room. For your information, we don’t cover any nightly stays outside of the training period.
PLACEMENT ACCOMMODATION
When in placement you will be given assistance in finding accommodation, normally from the school. It will cost you approximately 4,000 THB each month for rent and around 1,000 THB for other bills. Your accommodation in your teaching placement will most likely be a one room Thai–style studio apartment or a house (depending on if you are sharing) and will be quite basic: double bed, shower, Thai-style toilet, fan or air con. You would not normally have a TV, fridge or cooking facilities – Thai people eat out for nearly every meal and the cost of living is extremely low, with street vendors nearly everywhere, so not having a cooker shouldn’t be a problem for you.
AIRPORT MEETING
We can meet you at the airport, if you so desire. There is an extra charge of 40 GBP for us to meet you at the airport then take you to your booked accommodation. Many trainees organise hostel stays with other people on the course through our Facebook groups, and so don’t opt for the airport meeting and travel with other arrivals to the recommended hostels – but we are happy to meet anyone who doesn’t do this!
ASSISTANCE WITH VISAS
We guide you in the visa application. Normally you buy a tourist visa before you leave your home country, and then get the working visa once you start teaching.
A NETWORK OF FELLOW TRAINEES
You won’t be alone! Around 20 other trainees will accompany you on the TEFL course. It’s very easy and cheap to travel in Thailand, with many public transport options. This is why nearly every weekend we notice trainees meeting up through Facebook in one part of Thailand or another.
Your course group will become a great support for you while you teach here – and most of the people we recruit are very outgoing – you have to be to be a TEFL teacher! It’s very easy to make friends.
SOME THAI LANGUAGE & CULTURE TRAINING
Every day on the course you get a Thai lesson taught in a TEFL style. This is to help you in learning both Thai and in learning how to teach. Learning at least some Thai is essential in order to buy things and get around – and we make it easy for you to learn on this program.
SOCIAL EVENTS
There will be many excursions and events organised by our teachers on the course and whilst on placement (at the weekends) and you’re greatly encouraged to get on board and go exploring with everyone!
CONTINUE TO TEACH IN OTHER COUNTRIES
After your TEFL training you will be qualified to teach English anywhere in the world. Many of our alumni continue on to other countries such as Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and China to name a few. However, a greater number of them actually stay in Thailand because once you experience this country, you might never want to leave!
AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME
Travelling and teaching abroad is a unique experience that you sometimes only get a short window to accept. Once permanent jobs come along, families, etc, it’s more difficult to go out into another country and “find yourself”. Many trainees tell us that coming to Thailand to teach English was the best decision they made at that point in their lives. It really does open your eyes to the world.
So, what are you waiting for?
WHAT AM I PAYING FOR?
- 120-hour TEFL certificate and TEFL training in a paradise location.
- A teaching job in Thailand with one of our partner schools for one school term (Approx. 4.5 months).
- Full assistance and guidance in preparation for arriving in Thailand
- Assistance and guidance in gaining a visa.
- Complimentary accommodation is provided for the duration of the 3-week TEFL course
THE PROGRAM RUNS EVERY APRIL AND OCTOBER
We run this program twice each year, with start dates in April and October, which is just before the start of the school terms. We do it this way to make sure everyone has a job for the start of the school term – and we have never failed in our job guarantee and placement service.
THAILAND SCHOOL TERMS
Term 1 – Mid May until the end of September
Term 2 – Late October/ Start of November until end of February/ End of March
FOOD FOR 7 – 10 WEEKS OR SO
Remember that 7 weeks will pass before you get paid your first salary. Fortunately, Thailand is a very cheap place to live. We have estimated that you will need around 3000 THB a week for the first weeks before you get paid. You may actually need more or less than this, depending on how well you can budget your cash.
Many teachers see Thailand’s first few months as a holiday and this can be a temptation to travel and spend more money on partying, drinking, etc. We ask you to take into account that you will need a lot more cash if you want to drink a lot or go on trips to islands for parties.
TRAVEL OR MEDICAL INSURANCE
We advise you to apply for travel insurance from your home country before you leave. If you are from the UK or Europe we recommend Long Stay Travel Insurance.
VISAS
It costs approximately 2000 THB – 3000 THB for any visa – tourist or non-immigrant visa – from any Thai Consulate in the world. It’s common for you to first buy a single-entry tourist visa for the TEFL course, to extend it in Thailand (2000 THB) then to buy another non-immigrant B visa before the work permit can be applied for. All visa costs are the responsibility of teachers.
A CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK
It costs about £20 – £30 for a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland (and you don’t need to be Scottish), which is the fastest system you can use in the UK and it takes around 2 weeks for them to post the police check to you. You can also get a Subject Access Request from your local police station for £10 but it can take up to 6 weeks to get back to you.
Applicants from other countries will need to check with their local police department.
THAI BANK ACCOUNTS
It costs 500 THB to open for a bank account in Thailand.
FLIGHTS
You will have to cover the costs of your flights to Thailand. You can get very cheap flights through Skyscanner. You also might want to get a flight to the training area, depending on where it is. There are regular flights to Krabi and Koh Samui.
ACCOMMODATION DEPOSIT
You will normally need to put down two month’s rent as a rental deposit or bond for your accommodation. This will normally be around 8,000 THB. You will also need to pay for your first month’s rent upfront, which will be another 4,000 THB.
One of the major benefits of the Thailand Internship Program is that you get to learn how to teach English (TEFL) in a paradise location.
The first of our TEFL training locations that we open is Koh Chang. We may or may not open another location, it is based upon demand for our courses. If we feel we have enough time to recruit a good number of people for the next course, then we will open another program, which could be either Koh Samui, Krabi, Phuket, Koh Lipe, Khao Lak or another paradise in Thailand – there are so many!
The main thing to note here is that you really don’t get to choose which paradise location you book – there is only one paradise location open at any one time, and there is no guarantee that we will open another location. Our advice is – if you want to teach in Thailand, apply now – all locations are paradisiacal and you will have no lesser of an experience from one location to another.
KOH CHANG
Koh Chang is the 3rd largest island in Thailand, and can be literally translated as Elephant Island. Not surprisingly then, you will find lots of elephants on the island. On a map, the island also looks like the head of an elephant. It lies 5.5 hrs drive south-southeast of Bangkok.
Although the island is Thailand’s 3rd largest and you would expect it to be similar to the islands of Koh Samui or Phuket in terms of development and tourism, this is not the case with Koh Chang. It remains a lot more peaceful and less developed than these other islands, with some beaches still half-deserted. Saying this, there is lots to do and should you wish to visit tremendous waterfalls, go hill trekking or elephant trekking, rent a canoe, go diving or snorkelling or visit a spa. Or maybe just relax near the sea with a nice cold drink and breathe in the beauty.
We have chosen to have the TEFL training on Koh Chang because on one hand you can relax and on the other hand you can party, but also because of the option to do other activities.
The beaches on Koh Chang are beautiful. The water is clear, calm and shallow. If you want a chance to truly relax in the evening and at the weekends while during the day you embark on becoming the TEFL teacher you dream of becoming, then our TEFL course in Koh Chang offers you that and more. Three weeks on Koh Chang and you may never want to leave!
KRABI
Krabi is probably the most beautiful province of Thailand. Crystal clear waters, soft white sand and views that will take your breath away, it really is heaven on earth. Usually we have TEFL training on an island somewhere in Thailand but the Krabi Internships course is a little different. Krabi has beautiful beaches and fantastic resorts along the coastline and so this time we have decided to hold our TEFL training on the coast – we just couldn’t resist the beauty Krabi provides. Krabi is a tourist destination, but has a balance of fun things to do and also chances to relax and get away from it all. Those accepted on this program will certainly have a special experience TEFL training in Krabi.
Krabi is an area if Thailand that is not only beautiful, but famous. In this province, many movies have been filmed – including James Bond and Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Beach. What’s one reason why they choose Krabi? It’s beauty. We keep saying the same thing over and over again, we chose Krabi because it literally is beautiful beyond belief! There is also much to do and see. From snorkelling, to rock climbing to seeing ancient 40 million year old fossilized shellfish! And of course, nice places to eat.
KOH SAMUI
Koh Samui is a tourist hotspot, so much so that it is the only TEFL training island that actually boasts an airport! This means that you get a vast variety of bars and restaurants, massage parlours and spas, internet cafe’s, waterfalls, temple’s, there’s a monkey show, snake farm and even a zoo!
Because the island is a popular one among tourists, that also means you get a lot better deals because businesses are competing with each other to get your hard-earned cash! And there are plenty of peaceful areas to chill out and relax, or areas to get down and party. Whatever your persuasion, Koh Samui has it all!
We have chosen to have the TEFL training on Koh Samui because it offers something different for our trainees. There is so much to do on the island but also you will meet fellow travellers (always with interesting stories to tell) and be able to enjoy your evenings and weekends to the max!
Three weeks on Koh Samui – mix study with pleasure, relax and party, chill and romanticize your life in TEFL Heaven! This is one island where you will never be bored.
PHUKET
Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and is located on the west coast of the Andaman Sea. Phuket is well known by foreign travellers and is a home to people from all around the word which makes it one of Thailand’s most multicultural locations. One of the most popular tourist areas on Phuket is Patong Beach which offers a huge variety of entertainment and shopping facilities. Other popular beaches are Karon Beach, Kata Beach, Surin Beach and Bang Tao Beach. They are indeed less developed but invite individuals who prefer to relax in a less crowded and busy environment.
We have chosen Phuket as a TEFL training location because there is so much to see and do on this island as well as it offers quiet spots of tranquillity. Phuket offers attractions and activities to everyone. Spending a day on the beach, diving, snorkelling, hiking, elephant riding, shopping, windsurfing, kite surfing…you see the list of activities is endless but make sure you don’t forget to attend the TEFL training.
KOH PHANGAN
Koh Phangan is an Island in south east Thailand, just north of Koh Samui. It is famous for holding full moon parties once a month, but for the rest of the time it’s a quiet peaceful island. It’s a miniature version of Koh Samui with many elegant resorts and lots of things to do. There is a vast inland jungle waiting to be explored and plenty of stunning secluded bays. Nam Tok Phaeng is a protected national park you can visit, with the most amazing scenery, waterfalls and plenty of hiking to do! The Guanyin Temple is not one to be missed, an ancient Chinese temple dedicated to the Buddhist goddess of mercy. There are so many good restaurants and places to eat out, a real foodie’s heaven. Water sports, treks and diving are just some of the amazing activities on offer, along with spas, sightseeing and sunbathing.
We have chosen Koh Pha Ngan as a location for so many reasons! Unspoilt beaches, so much to see and do whether you are in to relaxation, great nightlife, or high energy water sports. This small island has so much to offer.
