With our partner, you can have all your TESOL/TEFL and travel related needs met under the one roof – a one stop shop.

Once you’ve completed the TESOL/TEFL training at one of their 3 terrific locations you’ll be ready to hit the ground running as a certified English language teacher in Vietnam, Cambodia and anywhere else in the world that takes your fancy.

The TESOL/TEFL course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh comprises 150 hours of study over 4 weeks with a substantial component (20 hours) being actual teaching practice with ‘real’ English language students engaged in ongoing study programs. The course is suitable for professionally-minded people of all ages and backgrounds who aspire to teach English as a second language. The maximum number of students in a class is 17.

This program is accredited under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and has equivalent academic status and content to a CELTA or Trinity Certificate in TESOL. What our partner delivers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh meets and exceeds the stringent standards set by the British Council for employment as an English language teacher in their schools located in all parts of the world.

The course has two principle aims: 1. To certify teachers for a rewarding career as a TESOL/TEFL professional; and 2. To provide prospective teachers with theoretical knowledge and hands-on teaching experience.

Graduates of this TESOL/TEFL program are:

  • Fully equipped to deliver interactive, fun learning experiences for students of all ages and skill levels;
  • Adept at managing a classroom;
  • Proficient in the principles of language use and analysis;
  • Knowledgeable about ‘teaching theory’ and its practical application; and
  • Skilled in identifying learning difficulties and developing & implementing responsive action plans.

There’s no doubt the course is challenging, but it’s also rewarding. There is a lot to learn in 4 weeks. You’ll be taught the skills set that will allow you to ‘hit the ground running’ as a TESOL/TEFL professional educator. We ensure you get all the support you need during the course to make your experience enriching and memorable.

The first two days of each new course in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh are dedicated to getting familiar with your surroundings and becoming acquainted with the people you will spend close to a month with doing the course. There is a welcome party (free) on the Saturday and a city tour (free) on the Sunday before the study component of the program commences on the Monday.

The theory component of the course largely takes place in weeks 1, 2 & 3, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.00pm (+/-). The practical component (observation and teaching practice classes – minimum 20 hours) is evenly spread across the 4 weeks and involves some evenings & part of each weekend. In the final week of the study program the focus is on providing support with completing the necessary assessment tasks and transitioning to employment.

Course content includes, but isn’t limited to: learning styles, lesson structure, lesson planning, classroom interaction, teaching the language, motivation & interest, designing an entire course, local & international tests, music in the classroom and art & craft.

The assessment process starts on day one and continues through to the end of the 4-week course. Professional conduct, participation, preparation work and suchlike are all paramount. In addition to successfully completing the practical component of the course – observation & teaching practice classes – students are required to complete (and submit in most cases) 7 comprehensive lesson plans and related documentation, a course journal, two major writing tasks (1,500 words) and an English grammar task. While the assessment process does not involve a formal written examination, the competency bar is high given we’re about certifying people to work as a professional English language educator.

The TESOL/TEFL program at all three locations, Hanoi, Ho Choi Minh City and Phnom Penh, comes with complimentary accommodation (26 nights) located within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the training centre. Accommodation comes in three forms: 1. Residential properties owned by our partner; 2. Local hotels; and 3. Local Guest Houses. All accommodation options are representative of what you will find in a developing country.

Each trainee is allocated a furnished bedroom and a private bathroom. The facilities and fixtures in each bedroom typically include: air conditioning, WIFI, a double bed, a wardrobe, desk and chair. Cooking facilities are available in residential properties owned by our partner, but not in the hotels and guest houses. Having said this, local street food is cheap, abundant and right up there with the best you’ll find in Southeast Asia. Laundry facilities are readily available regardless of where you stay.

If you have a preference to be placed in residential properties, in a hotel or a guest house, you should advise the Course Coordinator a minimum of 10 days before your arrival. In the event you do not require our partner to provide accommodation for the period of your TESOL /TEFL course, you may be entitled to a fee reduction.

There’s no doubt about it, teaching English in Vietnam, Cambodia and elsewhere in the word is a wise career move. The demand for dynamic, qualified English language teachers is extremely high. Our partner offers job placement assistance to graduates of the TESOL/TEFL course held in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh.

All the trainers have been where you are now and understand where you want to go. Moreover, our partner has specialist staff based at each of the training locations who’ll work with you, side-by-side, to land that all-important first teaching job. Over the past 10 years our partner has had great success placing graduates of the TESOL/TEFL course in paid employment, mostly within 14 days of completing the study program.

Typically, jobs teaching English in Vietnam and Cambodia allow graduates to take home somewhere between US $1,000.00 and US $2,000.00 per month, depending on where the teacher works, how many hours they work and the availability of non-income benefits such as accommodation, transport and free utilities. Most employers quote and pay a net salary and then deal with the local Taxation Department on teacher’s behalf.

With the cost of living in Vietnam and Cambodia being a fraction of what it is in most developed countries, English language teachers in this part of the world can realistically expect to save at least half of their income without cutting corners. Teaching English as a second language certainly provides stable, ongoing employment, pays a decent income and allows for an excellent lifestyle.

Vietnam’s capital city, the centre of government and home to over 7 million people, economic growth in Hanoi is envied around the world. Hanoi is a special place – arguably a place of unparalleled historical significance that dates back over 1000 years. With almost a bohemian feel, art and culture are on display for all to see and take in.

Hanoi offers a temperate climate (for the majority of the year) – the traditional four seasons – and a pace of life that is noticeably slower than Ho Chi Minh City.  Local people in Hanoi are big on getting out and about. From early morning through to late evening you will see local residents enjoying ‘street food’, a quite drink of some sort or just ‘people-watching’ in one the myriad of outdoor coffee shops, bars and restaurants.  With a relatively flat terrain and a number of picturesque lakes, jogging, cycling and walking are common recreational pursuits in Hanoi.

The TESOL/TEFL training centre in Hanoi is located in Ba Dinh District, close to the city’s famous ‘Old Quarter’. Ba Dinh District is a mix of residential dwellings, small businesses and a sprinkling of light industrial activities. There are plenty of grocery shops for essential supplies and places to grab a bite to eat. The local area is known for being safe and is well-serviced by public transport, which is very cheap by western standards.

With a fully operational English language Centre in the same building, you will be immersed in a real school environment from day one of your TESOL/TEFL course.

Ho Chi Minh City is where it all started for partner more than a decade ago. Functioning as a TESOL/TEFL training centre and an English language school, the campus in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City is a hive of activity all-day (and in the evening) 7 days a week.

Go Vap District is a typical suburb of Ho Chi Minh City, located immediately north of Tan Son Nhat International Airport. It takes 25 minutes by taxi (US $12.00 +/-) from Go Vap to reach the downtown area.  Landmarks close to the training centre include Mercedes Benz (Vietnam), Isuzu (Vietnam), the Pandora Shopping Mall, Quang Trung Software Park (the largest information technology hub in Vietnam) and the internationally renowned Go Vap Orphanage.

While meeting the requirements of the TESOL/TEFL training program will be your priority, there will be ample time to socialise with your classmates, mix with local residents going about their everyday life and to do some exploring in the lanes and alleyways that characterise Go Vap.

Downtown Ho Chi Minh City might have popular tourist sites like Ben Thanh Market, Reunification Palace, the War Museum, the Saigon Basilica and an array of expat bars, but Go Vap District has what Vietnam is best known for – local people. In a quiet moment when you reflect on your time completing the TESOL/TEFL course in Ho Chi Minh City, almost certainly the friendliness of local people will immediately come to mind.

In addition to affording the opportunity to experience ‘the real Vietnam’ while you are completing the TESOL/TEFL course, Go Vap District has one of the best night markets in Ho Chi Minh City, a multitude of restaurants and all the services you would ordinarily find in a suburb of a major city. Banks, postal services, medical clinics, movie theatres, a bowling alley and more outdoor coffee shops than you will have time to visit are all close by.

Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, is our partner’s newest TESOL/TEFL location. Their first TESOL/TEFL course in Phnom Penh was in June 2016 and we’ve gone from strength to strength. Cambodia is the ‘sleeping giant’ of Southeast Asia with a booming economy and a ‘Welcome Mat’ for businesses and vocational training institutions. There is skyrocketing demand for English language skills and this translates into well-paid jobs teaching English for people with the right qualifications.

Their TESOL/TEFL program in Phnom Penh is delivered in collaboration with the Sovannaphumi School, owned and managed by the NTC Education Group. With more than 20,000 students from young learners through to adults and 25 campuses the length and breadth of Cambodia, the Sovannaphumi School is by any measure a teaching and learning colossus.

Our partner is based at the Souvannaphumi School’s Steng Mean Chey campus on Street 38 in Phnom Penh, 25 minutes by TUK TUK from the Riverside area, well-known for its abundant night-life. The neighbourhood surrounding our training base is classic Phnom Penh with residential dwellings dispersed among businesses of all shapes and sizes. Street food, decent restaurants, bars, coffee shops, laundry services and entertainment venues are all within walking distance. There is even a western-style shopping mall in the neighbourhood for those who are missing some of the comforts of home. TUK TUKs can be found on every street corner in the event you need transport to venture outside the local area.

The partnership with the Sovannaphumi School allows the TESOL/TEFL students in Phnom Penh to complete their training in a fully-functioning school environment from day one of the study program. The entire practical component of the TESOL/TEFL course takes place in the same building as the theoretical component and with your complimentary accommodation within a 10 minute stroll, what we offer in Phnom Penh is very much a ‘one stop shop‘.

There is no doubt that Phnom Penh and elsewhere in Cambodia can be a bit confronting at first – the noise, the traffic, problematic infrastructure and suchlike. Once you acclimatise, almost certainly you’ll share the opinion of many others who walked in your shoes, it’s a brilliant place to do the TESOL/TEFL training course and launch your career teaching English as a second language.
