Job Description

Interac Japan's job description for Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) focuses on delivering interactive and engaging English lessons to Japanese students. ALTs work with Japanese teachers to implement the national English curriculum, fostering students' communication skills and cultural understanding. They also act as cultural ambassadors, sharing insights into their own culture. Key Responsibilities: Teaching English: ALTs co-teach English lessons with Japanese teachers, using lesson plans, worksheets, and other materials. Cultural Exchange: They share their own culture and perspectives with students and the local community, promoting international understanding. Communication: ALTs communicate in English with students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them develop their English language skills. Extracurricular Activities: They may participate in extracurricular activities, such as English clubs or events. Ongoing Training: ALTs attend training sessions and meetings to enhance their teaching abilities and stay informed about the latest curriculum updates

As an Interac ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in Japan, you will most likely receive a gross annual salary of approximately ¥2.4 ~ ¥3.0 million per year. We pay our English teacher salaries in equal monthly payments, so you’re supported throughout the year. This translates to these approximate salaries in pounds, dollars and euros. (2024 July rates): £12,500 – £15,630 $15,980 – $19,980 €14,810 – €18,520 The average salary for an English teacher in Japan is between ¥200,000 to ¥600,000. These salaries are more than enough to live a fulfilling lifestyle, especially if you’re living in rural Japan. Plus, it’s useful to note that a new university graduate in Japan on average nationally is paid a salary of ¥2.4 million annually, and our salary package meets or exceeds that national average

Requirements

s well as having the mental aptitude and a desire for the challenge of living and working overseas, to be eligible to become an Interac Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), you must: Be a native-level speaker of English Have received an education conducted in English for at least 12 years Have at least a bachelor’s degree in any subject from an accredited university Be a team-player that is professional, flexible, cheerful, and energetic Be under 60 years of age While not required, it helps your chances if you: Hold a driver’s license Have teaching experience Have a teaching qualification, e.g., CELTA, DELTA, and TEFL Have studied a second language at school or university Can speak some basic Japanese Read on to find out more about what you need to become an English teacher in Japan.
